Owner Jack Pringle has sought the knowledge and talent of UK Halsey sailmakers to build his new set of sails. The Farr 45 fleet is going from strength to strength with some of the UK’s most competitive one-design big boat racing. To keep the Fraxious team competitive, Jack chose UK Halsey. The sailmakers have shown their skills in developing fast sails as seen on other Farr 45s such as Freddie Freeloader which narrowly missed pole position in the Level Rated Farr 45 Series based out of Hamble. Three of the new sails being made will be made using Carbon Matrix unique to the UK Halsey group. The result is a string sail, customised to each individual and designed for its intended use to give each customer the performance edge desired. 27.10.08 UK Halsey wins the J80 Garmin Hamble Autumn Championships and leads the Winter Series UK Halsey’s Joystick (Rob Larke) did very well to come from being over at the start to win the race. Many boats overstood the windward mark because of the strong tide in the North Channel , Savage Sailing Team especially being hard done by on one beat by the sudden appearance of a tanker in the channel. Second was Jevan (Rob Fox) showing a return to form, did having his brother John back on board make the difference? Third was Boats.com with Ian Atkins back on the helm. If Rob Larke thought that he was going to walk away with the weekend, Neil Martin in Jenga 4 had other ideas winning the second race from Joystick and Savage Sailing team. As the wind settled into the Southwest and built there was more fun to be had down wind and Rose and Thistle (Marcus Stone) showed some great speed upwind. The third race was again won by Joystick from Savage Sailing Team and Boats.com. This race was won by Jenga 4 from Savage and Just Do It( Terry Palmer). After a 2 hour postponement to allow the front to go through, a good call as the wind dropped from force 6 to a force 2 with 13 boats having two good races. In the first race Joystick and Jenga 4 battled it out at the front with Savage Sailing Team third. Overall the winner of the Autumn Championships was Rob Larke and Vic Gregory in Joystick with Savage Sailing Team Chris and Liz Savage second and Neil Martin in Jenga 4 third. With half the Sunday Winter series over Joystick has a good lead but Jevan sailed by Rob Fox in second from Boats.com (Ian Atkins ) in third. After the first weekend of the winter series was blown off everyone was looking forward to the second Sunday 12th October. The breeze started off from the North East which was somewhat of a surprise as the coastal forecast was for a westerly. The first race got off with the mist clearing and the debate was either to go inshore to get out of the tide or protect the right if the wind went round to the south. New boat Joystick with Rob Larke helming sporting very smart new UK Halsey sails showed his intentions early and led by the first mark, but on the second beat all the leaders went inshore but as the wind was going right Boats.com and Just Chilling made the best gains as the wind died a bit inshore. Just Chilling took the lead at the second windward mark and held it to the finish with Boats.com second and Joystick 3rd. The wind started to settle down to a steady force 3 from the east. In these beautiful conditions Rob Larke showed fanastic speed and led both races by a large margin. Boats.com showed great consistency with a 3rd and a second and Liz savage in Savage Sailing team got a second in the second race and Rob Fox took third in the last race of the day. Close racing in the fleet was again evident but we will all have to take notice of what we can learn from Rob Larke and his team. Full report www.j-80.co.uk/news/
